For over a year I have wanted to start a blog. This isn't it. Someday I'll start the blog I have always wanted to have but in the meantime I'm doing this.
On a recent trip to Walt Disney World, I mentioned to my friend and Disney travel buddy Barb Murison that I had a bunch of Disney cookbooks (I bought one on the trip we were on and two on the trip a month earlier). I said something casually about cooking a Disney meal every week or something like that and she said something like "you could do your own version of "Julie and Julia"". If you're not familiar with the movie starring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams, Julie starts a blog about her attempts to cook every recipe in one of Julia Child's cookbooks.
Well I have absolutely no intention of cooking every recipe in any one Disney cookbook but I thought it would be fun to start making a few from time to time. So that's what I'm going to do. I'm not sure when I'll start. I might make something this weekend but I'm definitely starting next week. I have plans for a few meals coming up including a dinner to host my parents at my apartment in the city for their anniversary and a couple of contributions to the meals at the house in the suburbs over the holidays.
Barb, who lives about an hour away in Guelph, has volunteered to drive into the city to test out some of my attempts. I know she's a fan of the cheddar cheese soup served at Le Cellier at the Canada pavilion at Epcot. We found out on our trip during the Food and Wine Festival at Epcot that it is the most popular item served at the festival.
I promise to post photos of the results and thoughts about the experience of cooking and eating them. As for the recipes, I'll let you know where you can find them but I won't post them unless they are commonly available (for example, by asking at the restaurant that serves them). The last thing I need is a copyright infringement lawsuit from Disney!
